Definition

Upselling is a sales technique that involves offering the customer an improved, more complete, or premium version of the product they're buying. The goal is to increase the average transaction value. In digital products, it's especially effective because the marginal cost of the premium version is minimal.

Examples

  • 1Offering your full course ($99) when someone is buying the mini-course ($29).
  • 2Suggesting the bundle of all your templates ($49) when someone buys a single one ($15).
  • 3Offering additional 1:1 coaching ($199) to those who buy your course.

How to apply it

After each purchase, offer a relevant upgrade. On the thank you page or in the confirmation email, suggest the higher-level product.
