Definition

Anchor pricing is a cognitive bias where the first price information a person receives influences their perception of subsequent prices. By showing a high price first, lower prices seem like a bargain in comparison.

Examples

  • 1Showing your premium plan ($199) first so the standard plan ($49) seems affordable.
  • 2Including the original crossed-out price ($99) next to the discounted price ($49).
  • 3Offering 3 pricing tiers where the most expensive makes the middle one seem like the best option.

How to apply it

Create 2-3 price levels for your products. Always show the highest price first. If offering a discount, show the original price crossed out.
